Decks for Parks
"Decks for Parks" is a personal initiative of a verynice design studio in collaboration with Abominable Apparel and RWS skateboards. Each "Decks for Parks" board that is sold promises to donate a portion of the proceeds to organizations that are working to build skateparks in local and underprivileged communities, such as the Tony Hawk Foundation. Matthew Manos, the founder of a verynice design studio, started skateboarding in parks at the age of 4, and found the experience of skateboarding life-changing, helping him to see the world the way he does today.
The $100 Solution - Business Card Design
a verynice design studio is responsible for creating and maintaining the brand identity for The $100 Solution™. For this organization, the $100 bill is a symbol for the concept that with very little, a lot can be accomplished. We chose to make a business card design that represented this simple interaction between The $100 Solution™ and it's students.
The Flying Scissors
This poster was created for the screening of "The Flying Scissors," a mockumentary about the "intense, grueling world of competitive 'Rock, Paper, Scissors.'" The edges of the poster are actually sliced up with physical scissors in order to mimic the nature of the game as well as to play on the title of the movie.
Dale Gieringer, PH.D.
This poster was commissioned by UCLA Campus Events for their invited speaker, Dr. Dale Gieringer. Gieringer is a leading figure in the movement to legalize marijuana, and is the co-author of Proposition 215. In order to represent the controversy behind this issue, and the strong opinions citizens have about the legalization of marijuana for medical use, we decided to create a poster that could be read in two ways.
CATALYST - Fashion & Student Trends
a verynice design studio sponsored this year's UCLA Fashion Show. As sponsor, we provided Creative Direction for the show as well as for the marketing efforts behind it, providing an identity system, print design, and projections for "Catalyst" the 2010 theme. Every year the fashion show benefits a non-profit organization. For the past two years we have pushed to benefit "Food On Foot" a non-profit organization in Los Angeles that provides food and clothing to the homeless. At this year's show, admission was free with the donation of an article of clothing.
Jazz Reggae Festival 2010 - Reusable Water Bottle
The sustainability committee for the Jazz Reggae Festival at UCLA approached a verynice design studio to create a design for a reusable water bottle that would educate the festival's visitors about reusable water bottles and the necessity of water in our everyday lives. This reusable water bottle helps offset the 38 billion water bottles used every year in the United States. 2000 of these bottles are set to be distributed at this year's Jazz Reggae Festival featuring Nas and Damian Marley.
Adopt a Unit
Adopt a Unit is a non-profit organization in New Orleans, LA that chooses one military Unit (currently serving overseas) to "Adopt" at a time. Through donations, we purchase various supplies designed to make the soldiers more comfortable and provide them with a taste of home. In an effort to serve ALL of our soldiers’ needs, we ask the unit how many female soldiers they have and are careful to include items geared toward them as well as the men. These generic items commonly include: socks, baby wipes, sports bras, snacks, movies, music, personal care items, etc.
Hold the Light
We were approached by the good people at PEN Oakland, the Before Columbus Foundation, and the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California to create an identity for their fund raising event to aid those in need in Haiti and Chile. The event brings together a diverse group of people in order to support the victims of the 2010 earthquakes through poetry readings.
Jazz Reggae Festival 2009
The festival aimed to promote the prominence of the environment in our everyday lives and how imperative it is that we care for it. The 2009 festival was the most successful in it's 23 year history having sold out on both days.
Foundation for Learning Development
A verynice contributor, Greg Ruben, was approached by The Foundation for Learning Development to create this mailer for an online fundraiser the organization was putting together. The use of the internet as a means for a "virtual party" was the organization's solution to the fact that there contributors would be very unlikely to be capable to meeting in one location, and this mailer is what helped bring everyone together.
